Last Call on Airline Tickets

The Official Travel Notes Blog

Airline Tickets will soon become a collector's item, as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that it had just placed its final order of around 16.5 million paper tickets, from 7 specialised printers; to supply the 60,000 accredited IATA travel agents, in 162 markets around the world, until the end of May.

From June 1st, 2008 all tickets issued through the IATA Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) will be electronic.

It is estimated that each e-ticket will produce a saving of $9 (£4.50) to the industry - or some $3 billion US dollars annually - and save the planet another 50,000 mature trees a year in the bargain.
